Our IEA team, Equine Education Initiative, is comprised of riders from local high schools, middle schools, and upper elementary schools throughout the East Texas/Tyler area. Tryouts are held in the spring for the upcoming season.
IEA is based on a system of “catch riding” where athletes compete on horses they are riding for the first time. This ensures a level playing field, with each rider being judged on how they ride the horse they are on, with credit given for those who demonstrate good equitation and good horsemanship. Riders compete as individuals as well as with their team. To tryout, riders should be able to walk and trot, at appropriate levels riders will be asked to canter and jump a course. Riders must also be able to groom, tack-up and properly care for their assigned horses before and after practices. Riders must currently be enrolled in a lesson program, taking a minimum of one lesson a week.
Our team is a non-profit team and its members are expected to participate in team fundraisers with involvement from parents/guardians. We will also have opportunities to give back to our community through several outreach programs throughout the season.
Equine Education Initiative is part of Zone 7, Region 4 and competes against teams throughout Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Louisiana.
